On Meteoroid Streams Identification

Criterion for the membership of individual meteors to meteoroid streams presented by Valsecchi et. al. (1999) and Jopek et. al. (1999) is discussed. The authors characterize and use their criterion as a distance function. However, it is not a distance function. Some practical aspects are also discussed. Correct criterion is presented.

The Dynamics of Low-Perihelion Meteoroid Streams

The Canadian Meteor Orbit Radar (CMOR) has collected information on a number of weak meteor showers that have not been well characterized in the literature. A subsample of these showers (1) do not show a strong orbital resemblance to any known comets or asteroids, (2) have highly inclined orbits, (3) are at low perihelion distances ( 1 AU) and (4) are at small semimajor axes (\2 AU). Though one...

Decoherence time in self-induced decoherence

A general method for obtaining the decoherence time in self-induced decoherence is presented. In particular, it is shown that such a time can be computed from the poles of the resolvent or of the initial conditions in the complex extension of the Hamiltonian’s spectrum. Several decoherence times are estimated: 10−13–10−15 s for microscopic systems, and 10−37–10−39 s for macroscopic bodies. For ...

Demonstration of gaps due to Jupiter in meteoroid streams . What happened with the 2003 Pi - Puppids ?

We simulated the dynamics of the Pi-Puppid meteoroid stream. The evolution of such a short period stream is dominated by close encounters with Jupiter. The effect is so great that it can cause the stream to split into several parts and form gaps. The difference in period of each part leads to the possibility of a meteor outburst on Earth while the parent body is at aphelion. Past observations a...
